Intârzie îmbătrânirea, evită deteriorarea celulară, o proteină descoperită de cercetătorii spanioli

O echipă de cercetători spanioli a descoperit noi funcţii ale unei proteine care ar putea ajuta la evitarea deteriorării celulare şi la întârzierea îmbătrânirii, o descoperire ce poate fi cheie în alinarea unor boli precum artrita, relatează EFE.

Cercetarea a fost condusă de spaniolii Juan Carlos Izpisúa (Instituto Salk din California) şi Pedro Guillén (Clínica Cemtro din Madrid), şi a fost posibilă graţie combinării unor tehnologii de ultimă generaţie.

Potrivit studiului, ale cărui concluzii au fost publicate în revista Nature, această proteină (numită DGCR8) exercită funcţii ce pot ajuta la regenerarea mai eficientă a oaselor şi cartilagiilor şi contribuie totodată la reducerea inflamării musculare.

Cercetarea ar putea ajuta la contracararea unor deteriorări fiziologice legate de vârstă, precum artroza, o boală incurabilă şi care afectează mobilitatea şi calitatea vieţii a 242 milioane de oameni din întreaga lume.

La studiul condus de cercetătorii Izpisúa şi Guillén au mai participat fundaţiile Mapfre şi Telefónica, Asociaţia Fotbaliştilor Spanioli (AFE) şi Universitatea Catolică San Antonio din Murcia (UCAM), au informat joi într-o notă de presă aceste organizaţii.

Cercetării au subliniat că studiul va permite pe viitor aprofundarea cunoştinţelor asupra mecanismelor celulare, care sunt asociate îmbătrânirii şi a numeroase boli degenerative.
